About BillLark
BillLark is an independent project with one narrow goal: make the boring part of freelancing — sending a clean invoice — take two minutes instead of twenty, without a signup wall or a subscription you forget to cancel.
Why it exists
Most invoicing tools follow the same pattern. You get a generous free trial, you enter your client list, and then the PDF becomes a paid feature. For someone sending four invoices a month, that is a lot of software for a small job.
An invoice is a one-page document. It needs your details, your client's details, a number, a date, what you did and what it costs. That does not require an account, a server, or a monthly fee. So this one is plain HTML and JavaScript that runs in your browser.
How it is funded
Two ways, both visible on the page rather than hidden in fine print:
- A Pro plan at $4 per month for people who send invoices often and want the footer removed plus a saved client list.
- Display advertising on the informational pages. Ads are clearly separated from the tool itself.
If neither appeals to you, the free generator still works and always will.
What we deliberately do not do
- We do not ask for an account to use the tool.
- We do not upload your client list to a server.
- We do not process payments or take a percentage of what your client pays you.
- We do not give tax or legal advice — check your local rules.
Who builds it
A small independent team building tools for freelancers and small businesses, most of them in the United States. No investors, no growth targets, no reason to lock a PDF behind a paywall. If something is broken or missing, email us and a human will read it.
How the site stays online
Running a site costs money, and pretending otherwise is how tools end up with a paywall bolted on two years later. Two things cover it here: a Pro plan at $4 a month for people who invoice often, and display advertising on the informational pages. The generator itself carries no ads, because a banner next to a form you are filling in is a good way to lose the form.
Everything else is deliberately cheap to run. There is no database, no user accounts and no server doing work per invoice — the site is static files on a CDN and the invoice is assembled in your own browser. That is also why your client list never leaves your machine, and why the tool keeps working when the internet does not.
